I love Charles Dickens's A Christmas Carol and have enjoyed the original and many reimaginings of this story, both written and in film over the years. I thought the original would be a hard act to follow but I absolutely loved A Christmas Caroline from the first paragraph and things just got better as the story progressed. I also loved the character names which give a nod to Dickens's original characters.
I found it very funny and highly entertaining, from the toilet humour to the puns and the ridiculous accidental death of Caroline's sister. I'm sorry, but I was crying with laughter before I finished that sentence.
It's 160 pages long and I read it in one day, such was its appeal. I've given this 6 stars because it really is the best story I've read this year.
I highly recommend A Christmas Caroline to readers, especially those who share my sense of humour and enjoy a Dickens reboot.
